Mental Habits That Will Never Let You Down

Fear, anger, sadness and joy are all very powerful human emotions. Removing all such feelings from our mundane daily routine is difficult. And mixing all these emotions could lead to nothing but bad decisions.

For some of you, it’s a complete nightmare to inhibit the ability to make rational decisions. When you finally come out of your emotion, the situation may have gotten worse than before. Feelings are natural, and at times you really need to express them. However, you need to know how to manage your emotions. This is where emotional intelligence comes in.

Mental health is no joke, and not taking it seriously can have a significant effect on your performance (at work and in personal life). Even if things are turbulent at present and your anxiety is smacking on you, know that you will get your peace back. All it takes is looking at the mirror, concurring the truth and finally making changes.

Scroll down and familiarise yourself with of some mental habits that we have listed will never let you down.

  1. Not Everything is in Your Control

Your worries, in reality, are the result of something that you are not in control of. You only have control over things that you can manage, and that’s it. Relax and take your foot off the gas pedal. Acknowledge one thing at a time and focus on what’s in front of you. For instance, if you have a friend’s birthday party tomorrow, just go and enjoy yourself rather than worrying about how you’re unemployed and your life’s a mess. Trust us when we say this that it will help to ease your discomfort that you experience from the anxiety that’s kicking in.

  1. Focus on The Positives

A lot of time, if you feel anxious, don’t let the anxiety enter your whole brain. Now, you must be wondering that anxiety attacks are not your choice. True enough, but if you focus on the positives, there’s no way it will eat your brain.

Go outside – get some fresh air. Put on your earphone and listen to something that meaningful. Take your mind away from something that’s bothering you. Walk around the beautiful roads and focus on the right sides whatever’s happening. Those thoughts are what counts, and that’s what is going to make you feel loved, accepted, safe and honoured.

When you are finally at homeostasis, think about how blessed and fortunate you really are.

  1. Train Your Brain to Stop Responding to Fear

What paralyses you before making an urgent call? Fear. Just before you tap onto that number, the anticipation of doubt come in, and you turn into a Jell-O. Once you are done talking to that very important person, you do realise that there’s no danger and that you are at no gunpoint.

Train your brain in such a way that you accept that there’s no threat to anything and you will see that it automatically switches off the fear. You will finally realise that it’s the fear of fear that you fear you and nothing more. And it will become more comfortable for you to manage things.

  1. Mindfulness

Open your eyes and watch out. Always keep your sixth sense regulating and controlling to attention – on what you choose to focus on. This is, in fact, the key to avoiding anxiety, depression and many other mental states.

  • Do you want to stop worrying about the future and focus on the positivity of your life in the long run? You need to control your attention.
  • Do you want to stop criticising yourself for the smallest of the mistakes that you make every day and stay committed to your aims? You need to control your attention.
  • Do you want to stop procrastinating and get your job done for real? You need to control your attention.
  • Do you want to stop contemplating the injustice that everyone else in your life is throwing at you and be less angry at times? You need to control your attention.

So, you get the idea, right? You need to start taking responsibility for the things that you want your mind to think about. It’s all essential to keep yourself happy and pave the way to success in just every endeavour throughout your life.

If we could recommend one useful habit to bolster your mental habits, it would be mindfulness. It’s the most efficient way of getting rid of unnecessary thoughts piling in your mind.

  1. Sleep like a… bear

Sleep is literally the answer to almost all problems in your life. Getting a good rest definitely does improve everything from your mood to your immune system. The mistake that most of you make is underestimating the power of sleep.

Do you ever try to get a good sleep without thinking about your problems for at least once?

We call this sleep like a bear because once a bear makes up his mind to fall asleep, there’s nothing that can stop him from doing so; noise, hunger, cold or even the disrespect from co-workers, literally nothing. So, sometimes, you should also put yourself in that position.

For once, forget about the wonky sleeping hygiene tips and tricks and follow these two instead:

  • Don’t take your worries to the bed: Give your brain a break. While you are in bed, you should only associate one activity, and that is: falling asleep. This means that you shouldn’t get into bed unless you are feeling drowsy or actually sleep. Also, schedule a dedicated time for your worries and problem-solving that is before bed.
  • Be consistent: Okay, this may sound monotonous but have the same routine each night. Make it to the point of having the same thing every night, even on weekends. The more boring your schedule is going to be, the better and faster you will be able to fall asleep.

Admit it, sleeping does improve everything. Well, at least it refreshes your mind.

Remember: If you want to sleep well, sleep like a bear!

  1. Meditation

It’s no surprise that the relationship between meditation and mental health are inversely proportional. Well, reflection does not block your negative thinking, but it surely does notice the thoughts and feelings, while you don’t have the understanding to act upon them.

This is as simple as closing your eyes and whispering some phrases or words or even counting your breaths. It helps you distance your negative thoughts and stressful feelings, helping you to breathe through those stress and worries. Alongside, following a good diet and proper exercising routine does bring about results from your meditation sessions.

  1. Never Worry Inside Your Head

Whenever you feel stressed, the best go-to strategy is to get the thoughts out of your head. Use a pen and paper or even the word file in your computer to get rid of the thoughts.

There’s something incredible about writing down about your feelings rather than just letting it loop inside your head over and over again. Keeping it inside your head slows you down.

Your thoughts and the light, both travel at the same speed. You can go over and over again thinking about the same stress-producing and anxiety-affected thoughts a dozen times before you can finally break-free yourself.

However, you cannot write as fast as you think inside your head. This is the reason we have listed this as an effective rule to adhere yourself from mental habit: Not to worry in your head.

If you must worry, a pen and paper is the ideal place for it.

Final Words

The only way to maintain good mental health is to avoid getting caught up with negative thoughts in the first. This may sound impossible, but once you accustom yourself from not thinking about negative thoughts in the first place, you will find yourself in a much quiet position.

These are just seven mental and emotional health habits that have been seen to work great for many. We hope you will find them useful too.
