Before the age of smartphones and instant messaging, pagers—also known as beepers—were the primary means of quick, mobile communication for professionals and emergency responders. From the 1970s to the 1990s, pagers were ubiquitous, enabling users to receive short messages when a phone call wasn’t an option.
