Common Makeup Questions Answered

We all have asked at least some of these questions at some time or another right? I have tried to jot down some of the most common makeup questions that people ask and came up with the answers. Hopefully, you can find the answer to your question here.

What goes on first? Your eyeliner, mascara or eyeshadow?

The correct and easiest way is to apply your eye shadow first, followed by your liner and finally the mascara. If you apply the mascara before the liner, there is more chance of smudging.

Do I apply my concealer or foundation first?

Foundation should be applied first and then the concealer because usually concealer is always one shade lighter than our foundation because our under eye color is always lighter. So, if you apply the concealer, which is the lighter shade first, foundation applied on top of it will darken the effects of the concealer.

Why doesn’t my makeup last?

This is usually the case when your face is not well prepped before the makeup and also because of a final makeup touch. Make sure you moisturize your face very well before the makeup and then apply a primer. With the primer making your face ready, you can freely apply your makeup. After makeup, make sure to seal your face with a setting spray that will keep your makeup intact and last much longer.

How do I find the right foundation shade for my skin tone?

First and foremost, there is no better way to know the correct shade for your skin tone without testing it on your skin. So, do not assume for starters. Secondly, never test your foundation on your wrists or anywhere else on your arm. Our face and arms can be very distinctive in tone trust me. The best way to do this is to test the foundation on your jawline or neck.

How often should I wash my makeup brushes and how?

The minimum is once a week at least, depending on how much you are using them. To wash them, you can dip your makeup brushes on shampoo water or makeup remover oils like micellar water and rub them with your fingers to clean them. Do not keep them soaked in water. Just dip and cleanse. After this you can just air-dry them and they are good to use.

In five minutes, how can I do my makeup that will make the most impact?

In quick fix, use very few products. Start with a concealer of course to cover the under eye and blemishes if you have any, followed by your mascara and blush. Do your lips red to stand out or any lighter shade if you want to go for a subtle look.

How can I do an easy and quick smoky eye?

Apply dark grey eye shadow on your lids, blending it with black eye shadow on the side crease. Blend very well and top it off with black eyeliner that you can blend or smudge it to make it look smokier.

How do I blend my blush so it looks natural?

Well, try to apply your blush right on top of your bronzer or contour. This way it blends the best. Now, when you dip your brush in the blush, dust it off on your wrist to remove excess powder and again brush it on your wrist a little bit. Apply the very remaining of the blush on your cheeks.

What is the proper order of applying my makeup?

  • Primer
  • Eyebrows
  • Eyeshadow
  • Eyeliner
  • Mascara
  • Foundation
  • Concealer
  • Contour
  • Baking
  • Bronzer
